The Morgan Motor Company’s 160mph supercar, the Aero 8 marks the culmination of a four-year development programme to create a high performance, hand-made contemporary sports car.

The Aero 8 is a completely new car based on an advanced aluminium chassis and a combination of Superformed and hand-formed aluminium body panels.

Marketing Director Matthew Parkin says “We were already using Superform to make the wings of the traditional models and so were very familiar with the process which we found gave superb quality with modest tooling cost. Aluminium is the perfect material from which to manufacture a high performance vehicle such as the Aero 8 . It is extremely light but strong and using natural materials is in keeping with the traditional image of the Morgan. Our image is as far away from glass fibre as you can get!”

Managing Director Charles Morgan adds “We need to produce Class A surfaces which lift both the quality and finish of the car. The Superform process is unique in that it allows complex shapes in a stress free panel. Superform are perfectly placed geographically for us to do business with and we are delighted to be able to work with a local company”.

“The objective of the development programme was to recreate the position we held in 1968 when we launched the Plus Eight” says Charles Morgan

“At that time it was the car with just about the most flexible performance you could buy due to the combination of its light weight and large capacity engine. We believe we have achieved this again with the Aero though our dedication to weight saving and its development as an aluminium intensive vehicle”.
