All the components illustrated on these pages are examples of how current rail designers are incorporating Superformed panels into their designs. Using the alloy 5083 SPF, high strength and lightweight structures can be designed to the exact contours demanded by even the most complex designs.

To the rail designer the key benefits of Superforming include:

Large one piece components up to 3m x 2m x 0.6m
Range of material thicknesses from 0.5mm to 6mm
Excellent corrosion resistance
5083 SPF alloy is readily fusion welded (to DIN 6700-2 Klasse C2 welding standard in house at Superform UK)
Fully recyclable

rail2

ICET - Germany
Aerodynamic shapes are often difficult to produce using conventional forming methods. Using the Superform process dimensionally accurate and high strength panels can be produced including three dimensional ribbed stiffening panels.

rail3

Central Line - London Underground
Using the latest aluminium and adhesive bonding techniques the Central Line train uses Superformed panels to clad the ends of over 700 vehicles. All panels are CNC trimmed to net size and fitted directly to the structure without any need for adjustments.

rail1

DMU/EMU Networker
Complementing the aluminium extruded bodies Superformed panels are used to produce roof canopies and double curvature transition panels in 5083 SPF alloy, 3.0mm thick.
